On 15 May it is International Family Day; a very important day for us at Gran Isla Hotels. As a family-owned chain ourselves, we understand the importance of promoting children’s wellbeing, making them feel loved and giving parents time off to look after themselves and their own relationship. Family holidays are key in this as these breaks over the year help you to disconnect from your work responsibilities and children from their school work, to bring you all together in a place where you can reconnect without any outside distractions. With this in mind, we share with you 7 ways family holidays strengthen your relationships…

Doing fun things together as a family. This is the number 1. way to help you reconnect as a family. Away from your day-to-day lives you can take part in fun family activities that you would either normally never think of doing or simply would not have the time for. For example: playing a game of mini golf or exploring the Wild West at Katmandu Park in Magaluf.
-
Making decisions together. Letting children in on the decision-making progress helps to enhance their decision-making, communication and teamwork skills. Being able to express their points of views on things like where to go on holiday, family activities or rules, from a young age will help them to grow in confidence for the future.
-
They allow you to spend quality time with your partner. Happy parents make for a happy family environment. A family hotel that offers a kids club like our Pirates Village Apartments will give you the time you need with your partner away from the kids for a few hours in the daytime. Feeling refreshed and better-connected after spending the day around the pool or at the beach with your partner, you can collect your kids at the end of the day and spend an entertaining evening together during our lively pirate-themed shows.
-
Acknowledge each other’s talent, differences and abilities. What better way to do this than at our talent shows? These boost your children’s confidence, help them to feel valued and special and will help decide their character or even profession for the future. You may discover they have got a skill you never even knew they had!
-
Getting together every day to share the day’s adventures. Sitting around the table in the buffet restaurants at dinner time and listening to all your children’s adventures and favourite moments of the day is the best way to bond as a family. This simple act can also help kids appreciate things that otherwise are not obvious or have been forgotten, comparing present experiences with past ones, for example: something that happened to you on a family holiday when you were younger…
-
Teamwork. Playing water games in the pool together, building sandcastles at Santa Ponsa beach and taking part in fun competitions teaches your children to work well with others, listen and think calmly and consider other people’s views.
-
Build memories together that last a lifetime. After all, who doesn’t remember their first family trip? Whether you keep your pictures in a photo album or share them on social media, one day you’ll look back and think: wow that was a great holiday!…
