Being a popular family-owned hotel chain in Majorca, at Gran Isla Hotels we appreciate being able to share with our guests the many fantastic aspects of the island: the stunning beaches, the beautiful landscapes, the timeless architecture… However, we wouldn’t be able to do this without help from the Majorcan community and so it’s only right that we give back to a community that, every year, welcomes us to share its Majorcan paradise with our loyal guests.
How do we do this? Every year we take on projects close to our hearts as well as those of the Majorcan people. This year we reached out to the families of Lucy Bosch Rogozán and Iker Marín Calamardo. Sadly, both children suffer from rare conditions: Lucy from Joubert syndrome, which affects her joints and ability to speak; and Iker from cerebral palsy, which affects movement in his legs. Due to the rarity of these diseases, no cure exists for either, making hospital stays a regular occurrence for both families.
We wanted to offer a way for Lucy and Iker to escape their normal hospital routines and dive into a world of adventure and fantasy by way of depicting them as the main characters in their very own pirate-themed comic book called The incredible adventures of Iker and Lucy. The comic was to be sold all throughout the summer season to our guests and other holidaymakers alike at our equally exciting adventure-themed Pirates Village hotel. What’s more, the characters were brought to life by our talented entertainment team who captivated audiences with a live rendition of the story every Thursday at the hotel, further helping to create many more unforgettable memories for Lucy and Iker.
To spur ongoing excitement and, in turn, inspire more sales of the comic book, everyone who bought a copy was automatically entered into a competition where the lucky winner would win a fantastic package holiday, courtesy of Jet2.com & Jet2holidays. With that in mind, we’re excited to announce that the family with the lucky winning issue number and thus recipient of this amazing prize is… the Norton family! Congratulations on winning this fantastic prize and thank you to you and all who have helped raise an incredible 14,000 €, all of which has been directly and evenly distributed between both families to contribute towards medicine and medical support.
It has been a spectacular summer; we’re extremely happy with the success of the comic book and play and sincerely hope Lucy and Iker have enjoyed themselves as much as we have. Let’s hope summer 2017 will make for more adventure and bring more joy and laughter to the lives of Lucy and Iker when we do it all over again!
