As the end of September descends on us, it’s now time to celebrate one of Majorca’s most loved festivities: the Alcudia Autumn Fair. If you want to experience the typical culture of the island and mix with the locals, along with seeing things you’ll never again see in your life, then this is the fair for you. If you don’t already know by now, the Spanish love having a reason to party and enjoy themselves with their loved ones and so get set to enjoy a real Spanish fiesta this autumn!
First of all, hundreds of people from all over the island will ascend onto Alcudia to enjoy this traditional event so you’ll have plenty opportunities to mix with the locals. It is a very important event for the locals as it primarily focuses on agriculture, handicrafts and industry, benefitting the local community greatly.
It is also a very pet-friendly event. Over the years, the fair has seen races where you can run with your dog, open areas for animals, medieval shows with trained horses, exhibitions on how to teach your dog obedience and much more. So if you’re an animal lover, you will love the ambiance of everyone having their pet in the square at the same time.
The shows and performances are endless. With DJ performances, comedy, contests and live music performances, you will find it hard choosing which one to see, you’ll just have to stay for them all!
If you want to bring back locally hand-crafted products then the markets at this fair are full of them. Find treasures small enough to fit in your suitcase that you won’t find anywhere else back home or try Majorcan delicacies made from following age-old recipes that have been kept in the Majorcan family for generations. After all, holidays are not only made for relaxing, but for experiencing something new in your chosen destination.
One event in particular that you cannot afford to miss out on is the ‘S’Estol del Rei en Jaume’. This involves a performance from a group of carnival figures with enormous heads that represent popular Majorcan characters. Hand crafted specially for this festival by the locals, this performance holds special sentiment for them.
Apart from Palma, Alcudia is the main centre for festivities, celebrations and cultural activities like this one. The centre is always buzzing with life, whether it’s the summer or coming up to autumn. However, most people tend to book accommodation in Puerto Alcudia to be able to enjoy the beach and have some time away from the sometimes-overwhelming life in the centre.
Our Hotel Piscis Adults Only resort is only a short walk away from the beachfront and is in the perfect location for walking, cycling or taking the short bus journey to Alcudia centre to enjoy this fair, many others like it, or a nice romantic meal downtown. What’s more, most of our staff are locals so they can give you authentic advice on other events like this happening in town and how to make the most out of your stay in Majorca.
