The best under 19’s football players in Spain take part in the third edition of the Santa Ponsa Cup this weekend.
The third edition of the Santa Ponsa Cup arrives to Santa Ponsa this weekend (from 28th March-1st April) to get you into the sportive/festive spirit as we welcome the Easter holidays in Calvia. Promising young athletes will come from every part of Spain to play in this tournament that has only seen more support over the last couple of years. This support comes in the form of the mayor and local government of Calvia and of Majorca, in addition to many local and regional sports associations and sponsors.
Watch this short snippet of last year’s edition of this football tournament.
So why Santa Ponsa? Calvia is the most populated town in Majorca with approximately 10,736 yearly live-in residents and almost triple the amount of this in high season. This, combined with the endless amount of bars, restaurants and shops found close to the Santa Ponsa Football Field where the tournament is to be held, makes it the best place to host this event.
What is the aim of the tournament? The main objective of this event is to bring families, friends, local business’ and visitors together to celebrate the start of the Easter holidays in a great atmosphere watching one of both Spain’s and Britain’s most loved national sports. It also aims to promote young talent from all over Spain and create opportunities for them to play against the best of the best. In addition, this tournament aims to do its part in helping the local community. For example, the Sonrisas Association will have their own stand at the tournament. This association helps children with special needs and so, if you have an old tablet or smartphone you no longer use, find them at this event, your contribution will go a long way…
