If you know anything about Puerto Alcudia in Majorca, you’ll know that it’s a sports fanatic’s paradise. There is an abundance of sports played in Puerto Alcudia all year round because of its spectacular climate, long, winding roads and crystal-clear warm water. The time of the year you visit, however, depends on the type of sport you practice. Do not worry though as we are here to inform you about what time of the year is best to practice your sport in Majorca.
Cycling
This is one of Majorca’s most revered sports. Every year, thousands of cyclists descend on Majorca to take advantage of its long, windy and practically empty (depending on the time of year) roads. The routes vary from long and windy to steep and treacherous to smooth and enjoyable. Puerto Alcudia can serve either as a pit-stop or the finishing point, depending on the route you choose and the level you are at. Whichever it is, make sure to visit the Port on the way to enjoy the serene atmosphere in Autumn and the rousing ambiance in springtime when everyone is getting prepared for the summer season.
The best time for cycling is during the abovementioned seasons: spring and autumn, when temperatures are milder and you can discover the true essence of the island. If you enjoy competitive cycling then join in the Mallorca 312 Cycle Race which is a cyclo-sportive tour of Mallorca starting and ending in Playa de Muro, near to Alcudia. This takes place on 28th April, just in time for the reappearance of the sun and the opening of our Hotel Piscis Adults Only resort in Puerto Alcudia. Likewise, there is the Long Course Weekend that took place last week in Puerto Alcudia where you can stick to just the cycling day or go further with all three sports: cycling, running and swimming.
Hiking
Majorca’s biggest draw has to be the breathtaking Tramuntana Mountain Range. This mountain range is home to countless hiking trails ranging from easy to highly intense. As it is a natural wonder, you can hike it whenever you like but our suggestion is to wait for months that boast milder temperatures, from mid-September to mid-May. As a new concept this year, we are very happy at our Plazamar Serenity Resort to have been joined by so many of you on our hikes in Santa Ponsa. We really believe that hiking is one of the most enjoyable sports you can practice to get to know Majorca better and so, due to the success this year, we will be happy to carry on showing you this beautiful island in 2018.
Swimming and water sports
The crystal-clear turquoise blue Mediterranean sea makes Majorca the ideal place for swimming and practicing water sports. Challenge yourself on the swim day of the Long Course Weekend in November or take part in the vast array of water sports available like: diving, sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding or going on an exciting boat trip to hidden spots surrounding the island.
There is not a day that goes by that our Hotel Piscis resort is not full of cyclists, runners, swimmers and other sports fanatics. Take the nordic blading team as an example. This year it was really nice to see these friendly faces return to our resort and have them give us some quick-fire lessons on nordic blading. If you feel like practicing sports on this idyllic island then you can now book your stay for 2018 on our hotel near to all the main sporting events in Majorca.
