You will probably never find a place so good for such a varied range of activities as you will in Majorca. As described in many of our previous Gran Isla blog posts, Majorca is a prime location for all kinds of activities, ranging as far as water sports, theme parks and aquariums to art galleries, hiking and wine-tasting. There really is something for everyone, which can either make your entire holiday the most diverse ever or make you want to come to Majorca at different times of the year and experience a diverse holiday each time. For example, a hiking holiday in the winter whilst staying at many of the hostels in the mountains that are specifically centred around hikers; a sun & beach holiday in the summer that gives you time to wind down and enjoy a stress-free trip or a golf trip to be enjoyed leisurely with friends or competitively with fellow golfers.
Majorca is a golfer’s paradise given that it is often referred to as one of the Mediterranean’s most beautiful islands and the climate and terrains make it perfect for practicing the sport. The advantages of this is that there are many golf clubs to choose from, for all different levels, ages and objectives. So read on and we’ll give you a selection of clubs we believe are perfect for your 2017 holiday in Majorca:
This golf course is probably amongst one of the most important in Majorca, designed by Folco Nardi with Pepe Gancedo and a frequent home to many regional and international competitions. For example: the European PGA Tour, the Spanish PGA championship, the European Club Championship and much more. So you can feel like a professional on this 18-hole course (Par 72) that covers a stretch of 6.543 metres and boasts the longest hole on the island: number 10 at 590 yards long. This is perfect for first-timers or for those wanting to perfect their game and is only a 30 minutes leisurely walk away from our Plazamar Serenity Resort and only 7 minutes by taxi if you find that easier. This is a public golf course so it is perfect for families with the Clubhouse serving dishes suitable for all tastes and preferences.
This course is a 45 minutes walk from our Hotel Piscis Adults Only resort or approximately 10 minutes away in a taxi or hire car. We would probably recommend walking though because it is an almost straight walk along the coast starting from the port where Hotel Piscis is located meaning you can appreciate the stunning views of the coast, making the walk seem like no time at all; especially if you go early with friends and fellow golf enthusiasts! This should be top on your list of activities to do whilst staying in the Port of Alcudia as: this 18-hole golf course is located right by the sea giving you stunning views of the crystal-clear water with a 6,499 metre layout surrounded by pine and olive groves throughout players’ round. It was designed by the well-known golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Jr. whose family has a long history of golf course design (his father Robert Trent Jones Sr. was a legendary golf course designer and brother, Ree Jones, also has also developed a name for himself in the golfing world). The club also boasts a fantastic pro shop and a premier restaurant with a menu full of specialities made from local seafood & meat dishes, combining this local cuisine with international dining which you can enjoy on the terrace which overlooks the Bay of Alcudia.
Son Antem Golf Course
For this golf course (located in Llucmajor, just outside of Palma) we refer to what we said in the beginning, to reserve this one in particular for holidays specifically dedicated to golf trips and not just for a one-day excursion. This is because this golf course, designed by Francisco López Segalés– one of Spain’s leading course designers– is one of the most challenging, with one of the most privileged locations on the island. It boasts large tee boxes and 3 lakes that come into play on 5 holes, with the 5th one being the most interesting: a dogleg to the left meaning an accurate second shot is needed onto a raised green surrounded by pot bunkers. This golf course is perfect for challenging yourself as a golf enthusiast or beginner who wants to learn fast on one of the most difficult courses in Majorca. A positive spin on ‘throwing you in at the deep end’ 😉 …
So, for a day out practicing your favourite sport, we recommend heading to Golf Santa Ponsa I, not too far from any of our Santa Ponsa Gran Isla Hotels or the Alcanada Golf Course which is a nice leisurely stroll along the coast from our Hotel Piscis Adults Only resort. However, if you are looking to enjoy a few days or full-week’s worth of golf then we suggest the Son Antem Golf Course to challenge yourself every day of your stay.
