With the crowds thinning out, Autumn welcomes a different, more natural side to Majorca. For many repeat visitors to the island, they have become very savvy in knowing when the best time is for them to come. Summer is the ideal month for family holidays with it being the school holidays, having multiple options of things to do and a multitude of families with whom you can make friends with. However, if you don’t have children, and are looking for the best time to visit the island with your friends or partner whilst the weather is still great, Autumn is the best time for you.
With mass tourism left behind in summer, the locals regain dominion over the island, making it easier to get to know them, their habits and daily routines and get more of a natural feel of the island. With autumn also brings an endless amount of local festivities unique to the island that you won’t get to experience in summer. Because many locals take their holidays in Autumn and not summer as they are working, they have more time to organise these festivities and invite you to enjoy their traditions.
There are also small joys that you didn’t realise made a huge difference: no queues for passport control, no never-ending car rental or taxi queues, more space on the charming beaches and cheaper prices for accommodation. If you book a stay at our Hotel Piscis Adults Only during late September or October, for example, you will enjoy exclusive rates that you will not find anywhere else for our hotel. Due to decreased occupancy, you will have more options for the room you want and, because there is usually more staff than customers at this time, you will receive even more personalised service. Of course, our staff are very attentive anyway, but they will have more time to hang around and chat with you, which is a pleasantry in itself!
To experience Majorca’s nature at this time is something you will hold dear to you for a very long time. Using the Hotel Piscis Adults Only bike rental service, you will be able to experience the beautiful countryside of Majorca without the usual tourist bus fumes clouding the way as you will barely encounter any vehicles at this time of year. Pass by the farm animals and tractors ploughing in their fields post-harvest, admire the olive groves and crumbling loose-stone walls and experience the scent of sea-breeze mixed with notes of pine & grass. Visit the nearby port of Alcudia or rent a car to discover the ports of Deia, Soller and Pollensa, watch the fishermen go about their day-to-day lives catching fish for local port restaurants, ask for a cafe con leche and enjoy typical Majorcan food like: tumbet, coca de verduras, ensaimadas…
Palma is a great place to visit in Autumn as it’s not too hot that you will be sweltering the whole time you are on your escapades. For the foodies, this is a great place for buying from Majorca’s only 100% organic produce market. (Saturdays from 9am to 2pm) It offers local, seasonal vegetables; fruit; bread; wine; olive oil; cheese; honey; cereals…
Palma’s fish market is a must-visit as you will find an endless amount of sheds & warehouses displaying freshly-caught lobster, bass, bream, sardines and much more. There is also a wide choice of both market and upmarket restaurants on the wharf, where you can sit and people-watch all day long. Getting from Puerto Alcudia to Palma involves getting the bus number 351 and it takes just over an hour. From our Tropico Playa resort in Palmanova you can take bus number 105 and it takes less than 30 minutes and from our Santa Ponsa resorts, you can take bus numbers 102 or 111 and they also take about 30 minutes. Similarly, if you would like to hire a car for the day, ask our reception staff and they’d be more than happy to provide you with information on the best car rental companies to choose from.
