Santa Ponsa is the hotspot for family holidays in Majorca and that is why many of our Gran Isla Hotels resorts are based here. With the summer season having already begun, we would like to give our customers as much information as possible about the bars, restaurants, water sport activities and entertainment away from our hotels available in Santa Ponsa, home to our following resorts: Pirates Village Apartments, Jutlandia Family Resort and Plazamar Serenity Resort.
Getting to our resorts from the airport and getting around the island. Unfortunately, there is no direct public bus from the airport to our resorts, only one that goes to Palma city centre (no.1, €5, single), from where you would have to switch at ‘Plaza España’ and get another bus (no. 102, aprox €3.50, single) from the main bus station (Edmodal) to get to Santa Ponsa. Your best options are to either to book a shuttle transfer which costs approximately €12 per person (we recommend www.hoppa.com) and takes up to an hour or a taxi that usually costs around €39 but which only takes about 15-20 mins to get to our Santa Ponsa resorts. Getting to Palma is easy once you’re at one of our resorts as you just head to the main square in Santa Ponsa, a minute from the beach, and get the abovementioned bus (no. 102, aprox €3.50). From this square you can also get to many other parts of the island like Magaluf and Palmanova (no.104, no. A11, aprox €3.50). The helpful staff at our resorts can also provide you with more information about timetables and prices as well.
Outdoor entertainment for children. We are pleased that customers regularly tell us that they never want to leave the hotels when they stay with us because of the endless amount of entertainment we provide. However, as well as our entertainers needing a day off, we understand that you may want a day away from the resort. So on these days (Wednesday is the day off at Pirates Village Apartments), we present you with a list of options for fun times with the little ones or with friends:
– Katmandu Park, Magaluf. A theme park hotel that includes: an upside-down house, huge climbing frame, splash park, soft play, 4D experience, wild west shootout, zombies dark ride, 5D adventure, mini golf and house of magic.
–Western Water Park, Magaluf. The destination’s favourite water park full of fun rides, slides and splash pool adventures for an adrenaline-filled day.
–Marineland, Costa d’en Blanes, (between Santa Ponsa & Palma). Dolphin & marine life shows and entertainment.
(Fun fact!>> Our Gran Isla resorts offer discount tickets for entry to the above day trips, see reception for more details!)
–Karting Magaluf. (On Carretera de la Porrasa, Santa Ponsa). This is fantastic for days out as a family or for celebrating your child’s birthday party. Also a fun activity for hen or stag parties.
Outdoor entertainment for adults. Drop the kids off at the kids clubs at all our Santa Ponsa hotels where they’ll be entertained all day long whilst you enjoy time away from the hotel or bring the kids along for a great family day out:
Golf Santa Ponsa I. Practice golf as a first-timer or devoted enthusiast on this 18-hole course (Par 72) that covers a stretch of 6.543 metres and boasts the longest hole on the island: number 10 at 590 yards long. (Located on Avenida Golf s/n)
ZOEA Scuba Diving Center. Go snorkeling, diving or paddle surfing. Whether or not it’s your first time and want to spend your afternoon doing something different or you want learn to be a professional diver yourself; this centre is the most-recognised in Santa Ponsa for either. (Located in Club Nautico, Santa Ponsa)
Santa Ponsa Tenis Club. Spend the morning practicing your game and perfecting your style and reserve a court at this tennis club, only a ten minutes walk from the main square. (Located on Carrer Riu Sil)
Sightseeing in Palma. Take the no.102 bus to Palma from the main square and enjoy a spot of sightseeing. See the whole of Palma and beyond from a bird’s eye view at Bellver Castle, appreciate the gothic architecture of Palma’s Santa Maria Cathedral which was restored by Gaudí himself and stop for lunch on the marina to enjoy a bit of people-watching or admiring the yachts. Santa Catalina and La Lonja are also great for a fancy meal, tapas or cocktail where lots of expats come from working all day on the yachts to let off some steam and relax. Or you can simply spend a day browsing the shops on San Miguel or head to the fancier boutique stores on Jaime III.
Sailing adventures. The Club Nautico Marina is great for sailing excursions and other water sport activities. It is located in one of the prettiest spots in Santa Ponsa but prices can be quite dear. If you’re willing to spend the money though, it’s definitely worth it for a day out on your holiday.
Bars, restaurants, cafes, supermarkets. So that you don’t have to worry about any necessities, food for beach trips, or simply want to enjoy a family meal together away from the resort:
-There is a supermarket opposite and a delicious bakery (Maysa) a few doors down from our Pirates Village resort on the main road (Avenida del Rey Jaime I), for all your necessities (toiletries, nappies, etc) and a great coffee and pastry to kick start your day. There’s also a few more cafes and a pharmacy on the same road, in the unfortunate case that your children become poorly, we don’t like it, but the change in climate can affect them sometimes so it’s good to have it there just in case.
–Fat Sam’s American Restaurant. Very popular for steaks, burgers, buffalo wings, tex mex and onion rings. Think of the Santa Ponsa version of TGI Fridays or Five Guys. (Located on the same avenue mentioned above.)
–Krishna Indian Restaurant. If you’re a big fan of Indian food then we’re sure you’ll love this restaurant. Authentic chicken tikka masala, chicken or prawn vindaloo, chicken korma, poppadoms and much more…(Located on the same avenue mentioned above.)
–Sakura. At Sakura you get what you pay for: large portions of pure deliciousness. Try the hoisin duck pancakes, chilli chicken or chicken with black bean sauce. (Located on the same avenue mentioned above.)
Il Vivo Italian Urban Style. A mix of Italian and Spanish food with these authentic and delicious dishes: goats cheese bruschetta, spinach ratatouille, chicken with serrano ham and cheese, and many more. And you won’t be shocked when the bill comes either! (Located on the street: Carrer Huguet des Far, about a 15 minutes walk from the main square)
–Tuck Inn. Referred to by many of our previous guests as having ‘the best breakfast in Santa Ponsa’. English and Scottish breakfasts’ as well as Sunday lunch and many more options that are all freshly made in front of you. Don’t forget to try the hot chocolate as well, it’s like you’ve died and gone to chocolate heaven! (Hidden away on the avenue: Ramon de Montcada, about a ten minutes walk from the main square).
–Bar Code 7. Local pub with go karts, trampolines, a bouncy castle, a soft play, computer games, live entertainment, a variety of cocktails, alcoholic beverages and soft drinks for the little ones. (The same avenue as above: Ramon de Montcada)
–Retro. Want to enjoy a delicious milkshake or typical cocktail in a friendly & lively atmosphere? The this is the place for you. (The same avenue as above: Ramon de Montcada)
–McTavishes. Great for lively evening entertainment: karaoke, tribute nights and watching sport. (The same avenue as above: Ramon de Montcada)
– Bar Amigos. One of the biggest bars in Santa Ponsa with a huge terrace looking over the main strip. (The same avenue as above: Ramon de Montcada)
–The Crown. A typical British pub with a great atmosphere and friendly faces. (Located on Plaza Los Jardines)
