What could be better than practicing your favourite sport in a beautiful place surrounded by crystal-clear waters and stunning greenery? Majorca is well-known for its pleasant weather and pretty beaches but, away from the summer season, during the months when it’s not too unbearable to work out, November will welcome the LONG COURSE WEEKEND.
This weekend, taking place Friday 3rd- Sunday 5th, welcomes all athletes to take part in races lasting for a period of 3 days with every day a different event: swimming on Friday, cycling on Saturday and running on Sunday. Originating from Wales, (with tough weather conditions and countryside which make the races all the more challenging and the after-feeling all the more satisfying) this event has grown considerably in size and is now bigger than many other competitive sporting events leading to many partakers like Iron Man athletes looking forward to the challenge.
What exactly do the races entail? The Swim, taking place the Friday evening is a 3.8km open water swim. The Swim also has a 1.9km, 1.5km and 750m swim for competitors of different skills and competences. On Saturday, the focus turns to the cycling events, named The Sportive which is composed of a distance of 86km along the pretty Majorcan countryside. And finally on Sunday you have the The Run, which is also made for competitors of all skills and levels as it consists of a 42.2km marathon and a 21.1km,10km and 5km run.
Feel accomplished. As well as the reward of knowing you’ve done your best, with all those challenging months of training, early get ups and late runs, there are many awards on completion of all three events. These are: The Swim medal, The Sportive medal, The Run medal and LCW medal. Very prestigious and a very noteworthy accomplishment!
So why Majorca? Majorca was chosen as one of the locations for the races because of the perfect weather conditions, (imperative for the races, for example the cool waters for The Swim) the wide range of leisure and sport activities and facilities available to practice with; and the great gastronomy for those rest days and when you need to refuel after a big race. The most important factor though is the wide choice of accommodation. Obviously, with the large amount of competitors joining in the race as well as their partners coming along to spur them on, the event organisers needed a destination with enough range of places to stay to accommodate everyone. That’s where Gran Isla Hotels come in. Our Hotel Piscis Adults Only resort in Puerto Alcudia, the heart of the event, is the perfect place to relax, refuel and rejoice after completing a tough yet enjoyable race. Plus, you have the advantage of being very close to the races which we’re sure you’ll appreciate after 3 days of constant endurance and perseverance. We have the perfect hotel with the comfiest beds, sun loungers and sofas to collapse onto.
So if you’re looking for the perfect challenge, New Years resolution motivation or you simply just want to join in the fun, head to the Long Course Weekend and enter the race before places get booked up!
